[edit] Bot?
Am i right in thinking you have a bot or something that could be sued to put templates onto articles. I have made a template for the Sharks Project to go on the Talk pages of articles. As well as informing people of the Project it also allows the project to communicate to people from there about what is happening with the article. I have put it on Oceanic whitetip shark for an example.
I know that we have had some troubles with WikiProject: Shark and that it would be best to not have two templates on a page but it seems that lenny, or unisouth, or whatever is not going to cooperate with us and will continue to work against us whatever we do. So, since those talk templates are a useful way of people finding the project i think that it would be worthwhile putting them on. What do you think? I am also going to make a template for the Portal, so that a picture can be associated with it, and maybe a userbox. They are not as important, but something easy to do. --chris_huh 21:30, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- Ok then, i don't really know much about bots. What we can do in the meantime is on some of the larger more important article pages we can just add some by hand as we go. I think at the bottom of the list of the templates at the top of the talk page is best. Then it would fit in best. Or maybe right at the top, might get more attention. --chris_huh 00:07, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Collaboration
- I've added this to the Community Portal - it transcludes the Wikipedia:WikiProject Sharks/Collaboration/Current item, so it will update automatically when we change that. Yomanganitalk 16:02, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Chris the idiot
Keep your slimy members from editing my userbox stefan. I do't edit yours so don't edit mine.
Member in question - Chris_huh
I didn't steel your userbox so dont edit it GOT IT. After I have recieved a reply don't interfear with me or my project AGAIN. GOT IT? Lenny 16:31, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sorry stefan
I didn't expect you to get some kind of threat. I just did something which seemed perfectly reasonable and reverted an edit, which was taken from another page. --chris_huh 16:38, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Just to note: I used a template and then filled it in from scratch. Lenny 08:32, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Shark has multiplied?
Since sharks think its shark, they decided to edit shark as if it was theres. Thankfully Stefan knows what to do. Thanks for assuring me you wont edit my project EVER :). Lenny 08:32, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
- I undertand that.

[edit] Happy now
Well its been an eventfull two months but now my project is being deleted thanks to people like you. I can tell you that my project was officila first so it should be your project being deleted. Say la ve. After I get over this trauma I may join your wastefull project. I'm going to take a WikiBreak, Wiki this, Wiki that. Wikiblah! I hate wiki for now. I (dont) wish you luck with your project and hope it is (not) successful. Out of good editors come bad vandals. Thats what they say and thats what it will be. So long Wikipedia. Hope your servers get blown up. But dont worry Deaf Fane I will be back with another project but it wont have nothing to do with sharks. I hope all sharks get speared within 15 years if not quicker and with guns and poision in case spears dont work. They wont be eaten by us, they will be cut up and sold as dog food. Thats what I think of it all. I didn't want a project to myself I wanted to improve articles to their best but no Some weirdo comes up and says theres already a project, wanna join? Of course not, I mean, Ive got my own project to deal with. You wouldn't let me have any members and when I did YOU STOLL THEM. On eof these days Holomation will take over the internet and Wikipedia will be no more. Well thats my story, hope you say goodbye before I go. Lenny 18:47, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
- Good Riddens to you all, especialy Chris_Huh. Dont worry folks (I hate that word)! My new project is already underway and I dont think anyone has it already.
- All hail - WikiProject Underground

[edit] How strange
Isn't it strange how successful my new project is. Ive got two confessed contributers and one unconfessed contributer. I know you were stopping people coming to shark but thats the past now. I'm concentrating on the future. Sorry for all the trouble I caused, no hard fealings? Lenny 07:53, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- I am making a portal called Portal:Tube, I was wondering how to do a box header. Lenny 16:36, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- I have noticed your revised SharksTalk template, how did you add the to-do list to it so I can add it to mine. Progress has been slow on my project lately so I need to encourage more editors to join, adding the to do list will help, Thanks. Unisouth 13:13, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome to project Shark
Hi Stefan,
Thanks for the welcome. I've read the sharks and shark attacks articles before and it doesn't help the fear response - it's a fear of sharks in the swimming pool. It's not exactly rationale :-) Not to worry - It gives my friends something to laugh at and I don't let it stop me swimming in a pool or the ocean. I'll take a look at the tiger shark and whale shark articles and see if there's someway I can improve them. --Siobhan Hansa 02:57, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Categories
Hi Stefan, I'm confused about categories, specifically fish/sharks. First question - should each article be in a Family category? Second - should each article be in an Order category? Third - should they be in both? What if the species is monotypic, should there be a category of one? etc, etc. Need direction. Another thought, what about having each article in only the category above, eg, species/genera in Family only, Family in Order only, etc, in traditional database fashion? Interested in what the Shark Wikiproject has decided. GrahamBould 11:32, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Yomangani & Stefan. Read & reread your messages, now realise why I was confused! I think I will continue to use categories at all 3 levels ie 'Shark', 'Order', 'Family', as I don't think that will upset anyone & some day in the future a batch job can always remove what is unwanted. On another connected topic, the article List of shark articles I think is a waste of time & effort. It's just another unnecessary layer of maintenance. Couldn't it be replaced with a link to the 'Shark' category? Also, the article List of sharks is good as it is in scientific name order - BUT it is wildly incomplete. I tried the odd fix but then realised it bore little resemblance to the actual articles, so gave up. Is there a plan to get it fixed? Most people (including me) wouldn't even know the article is there, to be updated with new articles.
All the best to you two, I'll just keep plodding along :-) GrahamBould 07:49, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

- Hi Yomangani & Stefan again, I've finished sorting out the shark Categories in the way that I mentioned above (all 3 levels). I used the 'Shark' category as my 'master list', so if there are shark articles NOT in the 'Shark' Category then I've missed them. Is there any way to check?
The way the 'List of Sharks' works now is excellent, especially when the auto updating is up & running. Please let me know when that happens. Might take a breather & check out the ray categories... :-) GrahamBould 14:39, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sub-project
Hi, Shark people. I have started a sub project of sharks called shark films. I am hoping you think this is a good idea. Unisouth 16:32, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

- Hi Yomangani & Stefan, Now that I've finished all the shark articles I've come to the conclusion that the Order category is completely superfluous! I did not fully understand how cats worked. Is there any way that these could be removed mechanically using a bot? The logic would be to remove any category with "...formes" in it, for articles in the "Shark" category. Are we all agreed that the "Shark" cat is useful & should be kept?
-
Is there any progress with the "List of sharks" article? Cheers GrahamBould 08:38, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

- Shark subcats - Hi! Yes, I can remove categories, semiautomatically, using AWB, I'm pretty sure I can do it totally automatically using my bot. Have to test a bit though. So we agree to remove all "...formes" cats from all pages that have shark cat? Stefan 00:37, 22 November 2006 (UTC). Agreed, & thanks! GrahamBould 06:55, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sharks COTF
Just a note to say that i have changed the COTF from tiger shark to whale shark. chris_huh 11:14, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RFA
Thanks. I'm still plodding away at sharks, but been a bit busy. Have you seen the image tag request in the GA review on the Tiger shark talk page? I don't know how we verify the copyright status of that. Yomanganitalk 00:20, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] A newb mistake
I'm sorry about merging the shark articles. I looked at the page of pages that needed to be merged, and apparently there was a backlog. I thought I was helping :P Lenzi 23:27, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Alright. I understand now. Thank you for your help. Lenzi 00:04, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] References
Hi Stefan, Just noticed, with horror, that all my Fishbase references have been in the References section instead of the External links section. I don't think this revelation will bring down the government, but I wonder if the refs could/should be moved in a bulk job. Maybe it would be ok to leave them... GrahamBould 14:49, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] shark images
haya stefan - thanx for the comments, and the kind words on my work (thus far). Much more to be done, but I'll try to get more of it up here if I can... cheers, pterantula
[edit] Shark edit
Stefan my scrollpad on my laptop went crazy while using an anti vandal tool. I fear that I reverted your edit. I apologize. Markco1 15:41, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] The Fish Portal
Hi, User:Melanochromis has done a great job getting the Fish Portal up an running. At this point, more sets of eyes can help make it even better. If you can offer some tips on the portal talk page about how to improve Fish up to "featured" quality, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Rfrisbietalk 13:48, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
