Sterkenburg is a last name of Dutch origin. In Dutch, "sterken" means "strong", and "burg" means "castle". Sterkenburg is often spelled incorrectly as Sterkenberg, meaning "strong mountain". Sterkenburg is no longer a common name.
There are five Sterkenburgs currently living in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. Two of these are named "Herman". One is father, the other son.

The late Ada Sterkenburg died (4-6 years ago?) fighting cancer. She died peacefully in her sleep, immediately after being told to "Go to heaven with Peter". Both Herman Sterkenburgs were by her side, along with most of the rest of her family.
The late Herman Sterkenburg died in 2003/4/5 at the age of 82-84. He died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family.
The late Peter Sterkenburg died at the age of 19 in a car accident near Brantford, Ontario, Canada in a car accident (struck a tree). Neither he nor the car's other passenger survived the accident. There was no apparent reason, weather was not an issue.
