The Stewarty Museum in Kirkcudbright covers the past history from this beautiful region of Galloway. One of the most important collections are those of the prehistoric rock art carvings which have been found in the region.The museum also stores some casts made from perhaps one of the finest examples of rock art carvings in the uk, called High Banks, a carving known for its use of cup marks to create it design. The area of Galloway has one of the highest concentrations of what is known as cup and ring carvings anywhere in the uk.
