Stewart Dry Goods

The Stewart Dry Goods Co. of Louisville, Kentucky consisted of 7 stores in Kentucky and Indiana. A division of Associated Dry Goods, in early 1986, it was merged into sister-division L.S. Ayres & Co. of Indianapolis, Indiana. After the May Department Stores/Associated Dry Goods merger in 1986, most of its former locations were shuttered or sold to Hess's in 1987. In 1992, the last former Stewart's at Washington Square Mall in Evansville, Indiana was shuttered by L.S. Ayres.

The company, like Stewart and Company of Baltimore was once a unit of Associated Dry Goods, though there is no apparent other relationship between the companies.
