Steven Menzies (born December 4, 1973 in Manly, Sydney, New South Wales) is a Australian rugby league player in the National Rugby League. His usual position is in the back row. Menzies is best known as one of the most prolific try scoring forwards in rugby league.
Menzies started his professional league career in 1993 for Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles, and remained at the club ever since. He rose to prominence 1994 through his pace and outstanding try-scoring abilities. His 190 cm (6 foot 3 inch) height gave him tremendous mobility for a forward even though he was not heavily framed compared with most forwards he played with at 98 kg (15 st 6 lb). In 1994 Menzies scored 16 tries, was named the league's rookie of the year, and finished second in the Rothmans Medal, just behind North Sydney Bears' David Fairleigh. In 1995, Menzies became the first forward for 50 years to top the season's try-scoring list.
Menzies was selected for the 1994 Kangaroo Tour, and made his State Of Origin debut for New South Wales in 1995. He has so far represented New South Wales 18 times (12 as a replacement) and Australia 15 times.
Menzies played in three grand finals with Manly in 1995, 1996 and 1997, contributing to Manly's 1996 win with a try. Although Manly have been unable to repeat this success due to decimation of the squad, Menzies' form has rarely suffered and even at 32 he remains a highly respected player.
Menzies has so far scored 155 tries in his first grade career, the fourth highest in premiership history, as well as being the most scored by a forward, beating Bob McCarthy's tally of 120 when he scored against Canberra on April 17, 2005.
Menzies has retired from playing rep games after the 2006 State of Origin series.
