Steven Henning "Steve" Warnstadt is the Iowa State Senator from the 1st District. He has served in the Iowa Senate since 2002. He received his BA from Harvard University and his MA and Ph.D. from Princeton University and is serving as an adjunct instructor with Western Iowa Technical Community College and as an intelligent officer with the Iowa Army National Guard.
Warnstadt currently serves on several committees in the Iowa Senate - the Appropriations committee; the Judiciary committee; the Transportation committee; and the Commerce committee, where he is co-chair. His prior political experience includes serving as a representative in the Iowa House from 1994-2002, serving on the Woodbury County Democratic Central Committee in 1996, and serving as president of the Drake College Democrats from 1987-1988.
Warnstadt was re-elected in 2006 with 9,340 votes, defeating Republican opponent Barbara Blanchard. [1]
