Steve Stifler, more commonly referred to as The Stifler, is fictional character depicted in the three films comprising the American Pie series by actor Seann William Scott.

Steve Stifler, known to his friends and enemies as "The Stifler", is one of the central characters of the "American Pie" movie franchise. An arrogant, sometimes, bullyish, and oversexed jock, Stifler is not part of the main clique of characters from the "American Pie" movie trilogy. However, the group maintained a reluctant friendship with the popular, though completely obnoxious jock and as such, are granted access through Stifler, to parties that he regularly throws for his fellow popular high school students. Indeed, it is stated one of the main characters, that the only reason that the group even acknowledges Stifler's very existence is due to the fact that he invites the group to parties that they normally would never be invited to attend, most notably the post-prom party that Stifler throws in the final act of the first American Pie film.
Stifler's parents, Eric and Jennine Stifler, are divorced with Stifler and his brother living with their mother. During the course of the trilogy, it is shown that Jennine Stifler raised her sons in a very much hands-off fashion, allowing him to throw wild parties and drink. Furthermore, it has been shown that Mrs. Stifler is not above seducing her son's friends and that combined with her youthfull appearance, is the subject of much lust amongst Stifler's classmates, who deem her to be a "MiLF".
Stifler has a brother, Matt. Matt (who was the focus of the direct to dvd film "American Pie: Band Camp") worships his brother and seeks to carry on his brother's reputation of being a popular and obnoxious sex-crazed jerk, though he ultimately reveals that he only does so because he secretly craves his brother's approval.
Stifler does not have any close friends; it is heavily implied during the trilogy and in the film "American Pie: Band Camp", that Stifler is in reality, hated by all and that those that he considers "friends", are in reality hangers on who put up with Stifler's obnoxiousness in order to gain spill-over perks, such as being invited to Stifler's often decedant beer and sex-fueled parties.
During the film, Stifler is shown to associate with members of his school's lacrosse team. Through teammate Oz, Stifler has a strained but ultimately longterm friendship the other three American Pie kids, Jim, Kevin and Finch, of which out of the three he is shown to be closest to Jim.
He is known to have had many sexual partners, with 23 acts of sexual intercourse in his freshman year of college alone.
His first emotional connection with a girl, however, was in American Wedding, with Cadence Flaherty, Michelle's younger sister. It is not known if their relationship lasted beyond Jim and Michelle Flaherty's wedding, although it is revealed that Stifler went on to become a pornography director in American Pie: Band Camp.

Stifler went to East Great Falls High. It is unknown how good he was academically (although he says in American Wedding that he was "always more of a 'C' student" to Cadence), but he was in the school lacrosse team.
While not part of the sex pact, Stifler plays a crucial role in the film in two ways: his post-prom party (for which an invitation to, was the main motivation for the main four characters to even associate with Stifler) served as the setting for the film's final act.
Stifler also becomes obsessed with ruining one of the main characters (Finch) by exposing him as a geek to the girls of the school after Finch arranges for rumors (including one where he had defeated Stifler in a fight) about himself to be spread across the school in order to make him desirable as a prom date, resulting in Stifler's planned date dumping him in hopes of getting asked out by Finch. Stifler's revenge culminated in him putting Pentalax, a potent laxative, into Finch's drink of choice (moccachino), giving him a case of explosive diarreah that results in Finch being humiliated in from of a large group of female classmates. Finch however got revenge by bedding Stifler's mother.

Stifler reappeared in American Pie 2, having boasted of bedding 23 seperate girls during his freshman year of college. Along with the main clique of the film series, Stifler helps chip in cash to rent a beachhouse on Lake Michigan with the rest of the group. During the summer, Stifler becomes obsessed with the group's neighbors, a lesbian couple who deal with Stifler's obsession ultimately by offering to make out in front of him and the rest of the cast in exchange for Stifler making out with Jim. Stifler kisses Jim, who freaks out and runs away, leaving Stifler angry due to the fact that he was perfectly willing to engage in male-male homosexual experimentation in order to be able to hang out with the lesbian couple.

Stifler is revealed to have become a high school football assistant coach (he also drives the team bus) He drops in on Jim and Michelle's engagement party, much to Michelle's dismay. He is also implicated in an unusual Jim-plus-two-dogs foursome. He later competes with Finch for the heart of Candence, Michelle's younger sister. He switches personalities with Finch (Stifler becoming a kind gentleman, while Finch becomes a vulgar frat boy) so that he can win Cadence. Eventually she chooses him and tells him to meet her to have sex in a closet. He goes, has sex and then it's revealed that it wasn't with Cadence but with Jim's grandmother. Afterwords, Stifler accidentally destroys the massive flower arrangement Michelle's family had ordered for the wedding, resulting in Michelle and Candence turning against him. However, Stifler redeems himself at the end of the film: using the football team as his minions, Stifler uses his own money to buy up the entire content of a nearby flower shop and has the football team successfully set up the flowers for the wedding hours before it is to occur.

In American Pie: Band Camp, we are told that Stifler has moved on from coaching football players to become a pornographic movie director.
