Steve Steadham started his career as a skateboarder at the age of 17. In 1981, Steve graduated from high school in Las Vegas, Nevada. The following weekend he moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue skateboarding professionally. His first job in California was working at the Whittier Skatepark. After a couple of years working the park and skating hard every day, Steve was sponsored by Powell Peralta – skateboarding’s biggest company. Powell Peralta was also home to the Bones Brigade skateboard team. Upon becoming sponsored, Steve along with teammates Steve Caballero, Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, Mike McGill and Rodney Mullen formed the core nucleus of the team.
Steve was the top amateur skater in the CASL circuits for several straight years. He also was the first person to win all the amateur events at The Pipeline skate park in Upland California except the pool competition, where he placed second to Kevin Staab. The next day Steve turned professional.
The following weekend, Steve competed in Eagle Rock, California. Steve competed against some of the best skaters in the world including Christian Hosoi, Neil Blender, Lester Kasai and Mark “Gator” Rogowski. Steve placed second in the competition. Although he really wanted first place, Steve was consoled by the fact that he was defeated by his long-time idol and fellow Bones Brigade member; Steve Caballero.
After the Eagle Rock competition, Steve competed in Nebraska where he placed fourth. As a result of this winning streak, Stacy Peralta announced that Powell Peralta would be issuing Steve’s now legendary professional signature skateboard model. This board – the “Ace of Spades” deck - was released three months later.
In 2003, Steve Steadham returned to his skateboarding roots by founding Steadham Skate Industries. Based out of Las Vegas, this company currently operates four product lines: SSi, Messiah, Big Generator and Skate Grommet. As CEO of this corporation, Steve oversees all the strategic and operational aspects of each of these brands. Steve is also the founder and owner of the “Steve Steadham The Underground” skate shop. This shop is located in Las Vegas near the infamous Vegas Strip.
