Steve Staios (b. 28 July 1973 in Hamilton, Ontario) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player in the NHL, of Macedonian descent. He was selected in the second round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, 27th overall, by the St. Louis Blues. He has played both right wing and defence in the NHL.
After a relatively successful career in the OHL, Staios spent several years in the IHL and the AHL, eventually making his NHL debut with the Boston Bruins. After spending time with the Vancouver Canucks organization (who acquired him via waivers), Staios was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999 NHL Expansion Draft where he changed his position to right wing. He was eventually named the team captain, before signing as a free agent with his current team, the Edmonton Oilers, in 2001. He is sometimes referred to by fans as the "Macedonian Bobby Orr."
Staios was part of the cinderella Edmonton Oiler team that made a run to the Stanley Cup Finals. However, the Oilers lost in game 7 of the finals to the Carolina Hurricanes. Staios had 1 goal and 5 assists in the 2006 Playoffs.
Staios and his wife Sue have two children, Nathan and Ella.
