Steve Smith (hockey)

Steve Smith was born on the 4 April 1963 in Trenton, Ontario. He was a professional ice hockey player in the National Hockey League (NHL). He should not be confused with another, more well-known Steve Smith who was also an NHL defenceman drafted in 1981.

[edit] Playing career

Steve Smith was drafted in 1981 by the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL in the first round, 16th overall. Smith finished his junior hockey career playing in the 1980 Memorial Cup with the Peterborough Petes.

He played most of his professional career in the minors but did play parts of 5 seasons in the NHL. He played for the Flyers (1984-85 to 1986-87) and the Buffalo Sabres (1988-89). During those 4 seasons, he played 17 games managing no goals and one assist for one point and 15 penalty minutes. Smith never played in the NHL playoffs.
