Steve Evans (football manager)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Steve Evans, born 30 October 1962 in Glasgow, is a former professional footballer who is currently manager of Boston United Football Club in England.

Evans was originally appointed manager of Boston United in 1998 after a spell with Stamford AFC. He got Boston promoted from the Dr Martens League to the Nationwide Conference in 2000 and subsequently to the football league in 2002.(Both promotions have since been over-shadowed by revealations of off the field cheating)

Evans was sacked after a much publicised FA investigation, he was also suspended from the game for 20 months for involvement of the affairs of Boston United, in which players contracts lodged with the FA contained false salary details. He was further accused of impeding the inquiry and fined £8,000.

Evans returned as Boston United's manager in 2004.

After pleading guilty to conspiracy to evade tax, on 3/11/06 Evans received a very light one year suspended sentence and a £1000 fine. Despite now being a convicted Cheat and tax fraudster, Evans kept his managers position at Boston United.

Before being a manager Steve played professional football for Bolton , Clyde , Ayr and St Johnstone until a Cruciate Knee Ligament ended his playing career at 28.
