Steve Clarke (born August 29, 1963 in Saltcoats, Scotland) is a former Scottish international footballer, who supported Celtic as a boy. Clarke started his professional football career with St Mirren F.C. before transferring to Chelsea F.C in February 1987. He stayed at Chelsea until 1998, winning the FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup Winners Cup. He was retained as the assistant manager of Chelsea in the summer of 2004, after the arrival of manager José Mourinho, having also undertaken the job under previous managers.

As a player Clarke made over 400 appearances for Chelsea in a defensive role, scoring 10 goals. In 2005 he was voted into Chelsea FC's Centenary Eleven - occupying the right-back berth.

Clarke is also known for conducting post-match interviews in Mourinho's place more frequently than is often seen of other assistant managers.
