Steve Broussard is currently the wide receivers coach for the Portland State Vikings. He is a former NFL player, having played running back for Atlanta, Cincinnati and Seattle.

[edit] College Career

Broussard starred at Washington State from 1985 to 1989. He led the Pac-10 in receiving as a sophomore and rushing as a junior. He ranked #9 in the nation in rushing yards per game that year. Broussard was the 20th overall pick in the first round of the 1990 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons.

[edit] Pro Career

Broussard played for Atlanta from 1990 to 1993, played one season in Cincinnati, then four more for the Seattle Seahawks before retiring after the 1998 season, all while not historically finishing in the top 50 in any statistical category.

[edit] Recent Status

After his nine-year NFL career, Broussard spent a total of four years coaching high school football. Broussard was the offensive coordinator at Don Lugo High School in Chino, CA before going to Diamond Ranch High School as OC from 2001-2003. He began working for Portland State University afterwards.

Head Coach Tim Walsh added Broussard to his staff in time for spring football in 2004, giving him a chance to work with PSU’s veteran running backs; senior Ryan Fuqua and junior Joe Rubin, as well as talented fullback Allen Kennett.

In 2004, Broussard coached a first team All-Big Sky fullback in Allen Kennett, while Joe Rubin and Ryan Fuqua combined to lead the Vikings to a Big Sky Conference best rushing average of 204.4 yards per game.

Once again, Broussard will have a talented group to work with - this time at wide receiver. Senior Shaun Bodiford returns after an all-conference season, while fleet newcomers Nic Costa and Jordan Carey will need to be integrated into the system.
