Steve Bennett (referee)

Stephen Graham Bennett (born 17 January 1961 in Farnborough, Kent, England) is an English football referee and is regarded to be amongst the best referees in the FA Premier League . Bennett has been a referee since 1984. Since 1995 he has refereed in the English Football League, and since 1999 in the FA Premier League. In 2001 he was appointed as an official FIFA referee. Bennett refereed the 2005 League Cup final between Chelsea and Liverpool.

Aside from being a referee, Steve Bennett is also a teacher as is his wife.

He took charge of the UEFA Champions League quarter final first leg match between SL Benfica and FC Barcelona; the game ending 0 - 0. Barcelona won the return match, setting up a final with Arsenal. In late 2005, he officiated the World Cup qualifier between Norway and Moldova.
