The Sterling Volunteer Fire Department is a volunteer fire department that provides fire protection services to Sterling, Virginia.

The Sterling Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1966 when Sterling Park was made up of only a few homes and businesses.

The Sterling Volunteer Fire Department responded to The Pentagon, and provided fire protection to areas of Fairfax County and Arlington County.

The Sterling Volunteer Fire Department is located in the suburban community of Sterling in the eastern part of Loudoun County, Virginia located 25 miles northwest of Washington, DC. We provide fire suppression services to the residents of Sterling, Great Falls Forest, Broad Run Farms, Countryside, Sugarland Run and Cascades. Our Call Area covers about 25 square miles.
[edit] Mutual Aid
The Sterling Volunteer Fire Department responds to neighboring areas in Loudoun County, including Ashburn. The department also has mutual aid agreements with Fairfax County and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, so response areas include the Town of Herndon, Reston, and Washington Dulles International Airport.
[edit] Mission Profile
The Sterling Volunteer Fire Department operates out of three fire stations: Sterling Park, Sugarland, and Cascades. From these stations, we respond with three fire engines, three ladder trucks, a hazardous materials response unit and a command unit. All of these vehicles are funded with donations from the community.
We spend countless hours training to maintain certifications in fire fighting, emergency medical services, and technical rescue. We are also constantly upgrading our skills and equipment to keep up with the latest technology and practices in the fire service.
All of this training and equipment is brought to bear on almost 4000 calls for help each year and this number is rising steadily. Calls range from resetting fire alarms to car accidents to large-scale fires.
The department often works closely with our sister organization, the Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad.

The Sterling Volunteer Fire Department is a volunteer organization. It has four membership levels.
[edit] Operational Members
Operational members are those members who server in an active firefighting role.
Members are assigned to a duty crew that runs an assigned rotation. Each duty crew works every 6th day, except for a 13 day break that falls after every Sunday shift. Weekday shifts are 12 hours shifts starting at 6:00pm. Weekend shifts are 24 hours.

[edit] Station 11: Sterling Park
Station 11, at 104 Commerce Street, is also known as the Sterling or South station. It serves the area south of Route 7 including Sterling Park, Church Mills and Forrest Ridge. Station 11 is home to and Engine 611, Tower 611, Quint 611, Serv 611, and Canteen 611. Is it also the same building, the South Sterling Safety Center, that houses Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad Station 15.
[edit] Station 18: Cascades
Station 18, Sterling’s North Station at 46700 Middlefield Drive, is also known as the Cascades or North Station. It serves the Cascades, Countryside, Sugarland Run, and Lowes Island areas located north of Route 7. Apparatus quartered at Station 18 include Engine (Tanker) 618, Quint 618, Wagon 618, and Serv 618. It is also the same building, the North Sterling Safety Center, that houses Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad Station 25.
[edit] Substation 18: Sugarland
The Sugarland Run Substation, at 81 N. Sugarland Run Drive, was the former Station 18 and the primary North Side Station until 1997. It currently houses the Hazmat Support trailer. It is also used by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.
