Stephen Mark Rainey

Stephen Mark Rainey (born Chattanooga, Tennessee, May 2, 1959) is an author of novels, short stories, and various works of nonfiction. From 1987 to 1997, he edited Deathrealm, a magazine of horror and dark fantasy fiction, for which he won several awards for Best Editor.
Rainey's novels include Dark Shadows: Dreams of the Dark (co-written with Elizabeth Massie, HarperCollins, 1999), Balak (Wildside Press, 2000), The Lebo Coven (Gale/Five Star Books, 2004), The Nightmare Frontier (Sarob Press, 2006), and Blue Devil Island (Gale/Five Star Books, 2007, forthcoming). His other published works include over 90 short stories and three short-story collections. He has also edited three anthologies, including a tribute to Edgar Allan Poe titled Evermore (Arkham House, 2006).
As a teenager, Rainey created Japanese Giants, a fanzine devoted to Godzilla and other daikaiju movies. Today, the magazine is still being produced, under the able editorship of Ed Godziszewski of Chicago, Illinois.
Rainey grew up in Martinsville, Virginia, and has lived in Athens, Georgia and Chicago, Illinois. He currently lives in Greensboro, North Carolina, with his family.
