Stephen Leatherman
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stephen Leatherman, nicknamed "Dr. Beach," is the director of the Florida International University coastal research lab, and is widely recognized as one of the world's leading experts on beach quality.[citation needed] Each Memorial Day weekend since 1991, Leatherman has released a list of the top beaches in the United States, determined by weighing 50 factors. As of 2006, these lists had achieved sufficient prominence to merit reporting in various national media outlets.
Leatherman earned his Ph.D. in Environmental (Coastal) Sciences from the University of Virginia and a B.S. degree in Geosciences from North Carolina State University.
