Stephen Gumley

Dr Stephen John Gumley (born 26 October 1956) was appointed the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) in February 2004. He guided the organisation in its transition to an Australian Government Prescribed Agency on 1 July 2005. Under Gumley the DMO has become a leading Australian project management organisation.
Gumley was previously CEO of the Australian Submarine Corporation (2002 - 2004), Vice President at Boeing in Seattle (1999 - 2001), CEO of aviation software supplier The Preston Group (1998 -1999) and CEO of the entrepreneurial Global Lightning Technologies Group (1993 -1997).
Gumley obtained a Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Honours (1978) and received a Rhodes Scholarship in 1979. He was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy from Oxford University (1982) and an MBA from the University of Tasmania (1994). He is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
