Stephen Elliott (born 6 January 1984 in Dublin) is an Irish international football centre forward. He signed for Sunderland A.F.C. from Manchester City in 2004, where he had been unable to break through from the reserves. At Sunderland he quickly established himself as first-team regular, scoring 15 goals as the team finished as champions in 2005. His good form also led to a call-up to the Republic of Ireland first team, and he made his international debut against Croatia at Lansdowne Road in November 2004. He also represent U-20 team at 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship.
Stephen scored his first International goal 8th October 2005 against Cyprus in a World Cup qualifier. (Republic of Ireland 1:0 Cyprus)
His fee was set by tribunal at £125,000, with extra payments linked to his performance. Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy later admitted that he had bought him outrageously cheaply.
He is nicknamed "Sleeves" by teammates and fans alike due to his use of the phrase "sleeves up?" on his arrival at Sunderland.
