Stephanie Plum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stephanie Plum is the protagonist in a series of novels written by Janet Evanovich. She is a spunky combination of Nancy Drew and Dirty Harry, and the opposite of Domino Harvey. She is an apprehension agent or bounty hunter, working for her cousin Vinnie Plum, owner of the "Plum Bonding Agency".
Other characters of the series include: Plum's filing clerk, Lula, who is a retired hooker and Stephanie's occasional partner; fellow bounty hunter Ranger; and her on-and-off boyfriend, bad-boy policeman Joseph Morelli. Her relationship with Ranger, somewhere between boyfriend/girlfriend and teacher/pupil, provides much of her day-to-day stress. He sometimes lends a hand with some of the more dangerous or slippery FTAs (an acronym for Failure-To-Appear [in court]). Her history with Morelli, on the other hand, is one of childhood animosity.
Plum lives with her hamster Rex, in an apartment block with predominantly elderly neighbors. She revisits her childhood neighborhood of Chambersburg, or 'the burg' to her parents for meals and "family time." A promise of pineapple upside-down cake is often the biggest draw to the burg. Her sister Valerie has three children, one of which thinks she's a horse. Plum takes after her Grandma Mazur, a woman unwilling to grow old gracefully.
Plum is famous for destroying cars, her total being 24 cars, the majority being blown up. Over time, Plum has had to resort to taking a truck with a bad radiator, a carpet car, and a miss matched two cars called a rollswagon. The only book without a car destruction is To The Nines.
She has so far appeared in twelve full-length novels and one short special.
