[edit] Identity

Stellar is one of the three Extended pilots from the Phantom Pain under the command of Neo Roanoke. Together with her comrades Sting Oakley and Auel Neider she infiltrates the PLANT colony Armory One and, with the help of some ZAFT-soldiers, they steal three new Gundam-type mobile suits. Stellar becomes the pilot of the ZGMF-X88S Gaia. Stellar and her comrades heavily damage the base inside the colony and fight against Shinn Asuka, who is piloting the ZGMF-X56S Impulse. During the battle, it becomes clear that when someone mentions the word “die,” Stellar goes into a state of shock. Stellar, Sting, and Auel manage to escape from the base on the Mirage Colloid-equipped ship Girty Lue, but are pursued by the ZAFT-battleship Minerva. After the “Break the World” incident, Stellar and Phantom Pain are stationed on Earth on the EA carrier John Paul Jones and Stellar is later engaged in another battle with Shinn.

[edit] Personality

When first introduced in the series (episode 1), Stellar is portrayed as an innocent girl, dancing around and looking at pretty dresses in the windowsill. Though even then we get a foreshadow that there is more to her when she gives Shinn a very threatening look after he catches her once they collide in the streets (and in doing so accidentally grasps her breasts; this part is left out in the manga series The Edge). Later in the episode, her other side is shown, when she (along with Sting and Auel) takes out numerous ZAFT members to get to three new mobile suits; Without any hesitation, Stellar attacks one person after the other with only a knife. On the battlefield, she is again shown with an insane look in her eyes, killing anything that comes in her way. But as soon as she is out of the cockpit, she is back to her innocent self, possibly not even aware of what she has just done.

Throughout the next episodes, it becomes clear that Stellar is in general a very childlike and naïve person, always dancing around, and she also appears to be fascinated by the ocean and with fish. Whenever around those who are important to her, she displays this side of her.

Clearly whenever in danger, Stellar changes into a ruthless killer, crazily wiping out any enemy that comes in her way. Her change is similar that to a personality disorder (it's possible she is bipolar), though it is debatable whether it was that or if her fear of death caused her to frantically obliterates anything that may threaten her.

[edit] Place in the story

During her stay on Earth, Stellar meets Shinn face to face when he saves her from drowning after she falls from a cliff and panics due to her inability to swim. Already at this point it is stated that Stellar is afraid of dying, as she becomes frantic when Shinn yells at her for being so close to the edge of the cliff without knowing how to swim, asking her "Did you want to die?!". To calm her, Shinn swears to protect her, and while they are stuck on a small island overnight (much like Cagalli and Athrun in Gundam SEED) they become closer and possibly start to develop feelings for each other at that point. But when Stellar returns to the Phantom Pain, her memories of Shinn are erased. When the Minerva is attacked by the joined forces of the Earth Alliance and the Orb Union Stellar again fights against ZAFT, she inadvertently kills the new pilot of the Minerva, Heine Westenfluss, whose unit was disabled by Kira Yamato. While the Minerva investigates the Extended facility in Lodonia – the place where the Extendeds are created and trained – Stellar attacks the Minerva, but is defeated by Shinn and Athrun and becomes a prisoner on the Minerva. While tied to a bed (due to aggressive behavior both towards the people on board and herself), she screams out Neo's name, and Shinn again attempts to calm her, though she doesn't recall who he is. When waking up again, tired and less aggressive, she sees Shinn and recognizes him this time, indicating the erasing of her memory wasn't completely successful. Because of the chemical changes to her Extended body, her condition becomes worse, and to save her life Shinn violates orders and with Rey's help brings her back to the EA to Neo.

After the EA stabilizes her condition, she is quickly assigned to be the pilot of the gigantic mobile suit GFAS-X1 Destroy. With her new suit she destroys a large swath of West-Eurasia until she reaches Berlin. There she is engaged in a fight with Kira Yamato in the ZGMF-X10A Freedom. Shinn also joins the fight, without knowing Destroy's pilot. When Neo tells Shinn that Stellar is the pilot, he tries to calm her with his words and is partially successful. However, when Stellar sees Freedom she attacks again and Kira attacks the cannons above the cockpit of the Destroy, which causes explosions that mortally injure Stellar. Shinn rescues her from of the cockpit, and she says 'protect Stellar', recalling the promise he made. Before dying she manages to say "Shinn...suki..", which means "Shinn...I love you...", and Shinn screams out in agony as her head tilts back, recalling the death of his sister. He then brings her dead body and sinks it in a nearby lake, weeping bitterly and swearing to avenge her death at the hands of Kira Yamato.

[edit] Reappearing to Shinn

Stellar reappears to Shinn as a ghost (or, possibly, a hallucination, much like Flay Allster appearing to Kira Yamato in Gundam SEED) in the final episode of the series after Shinn is knocked unconscious in his last fight with Athrun Zala, telling him that she was "given her yesterday" and that therefore she is happy. Before disappearing she tells him she'll see him "tomorrow". Stellar vanishes as Shinn wakes up.

[edit] Trivia

  • Her theme song is 'Shinkai no Kodoku' (The Deep Sea's Loneliness) which is preformed by her seiyuu Houko Kuwashima
  • Stellar is often called the "Four Murasame" of Destiny (see Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam for more details)
  • Despite her memory being erased twice (once after her meeting with Shinn when he saved her from drowning, and once when she was given back to OMNI because of her ailing health by Shinn), she is still able to remember that Shinn had promised to protect her, which he failed to do.
  • Her trigger word is anything that relates to HER death (e.g: die, death, kill, killed, etc). It also seems the word "protect" calms her down.
  • In the manga series Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny: The Edge, her stay on the island with Shinn was mentioned at the end of Volume 3 as the volume's "special edition".
  • In the Suit CDs, she is featured in Volume 7, along with the two other Extendeds. The audio drama clip has them discussing about basketball.
