Stella Voce

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stella Voce (born October 27 in Cleveland, Ohio) is the host of Stray Pop, a punk rock and alternative rock radio program on KXLU at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. As such, she is known by just her first name. (It may be noted that her actual full name appropriately translates as "star voice" in Italian.)

Beginning in 1980, her music show has been a mainstay of southern California radio, airing Friday night at Midnight til 3am. (Around 2am she always reminds the listener that "The bars and liquor stores are about to close.") Many local musicians stop by for interviews, but when left to her own devices she often plays old recordings of lounge music, Disneyland Records, and other curiosities that her contemporaries might remember from their youth.

A 74-second excerpt from the show of June 3, 1980, was included on the spoken word compilation Voices of the Angels, a double LP released in 1982.

Stella also has been a writer for Spin magazine.
