Steg Robot Series

The Steg Robot Series was a series of robots built for Robot Wars by Peter Rowe, Danny King and Richard Francis (no relation to series 3 & 4 winner George Francis).

The robot was called Steg-O-Saw-Us and was armed with a lifting 'tail', although its main weapon was brute force. Its chassis was a mild steel box section. Its armour was checker plate metal for the top of the robot and much thinner sheets for the sides. The robot was a green, obviously Stegosaurus themed robot, with red plates running along the top and small yellow, lantern like "eyes" at the front. The robot even had a smile painted on it. Steg-o-saw-us originally ran on tracks, but they were not secure and kept slipping off, so a few days before filming, the tracks were instead cut up and used as tyres for the rear wheels. The robot had considerable pushing power and used this to its advantage to force other robots into the arena walls or into the CPZs.
Steg-o-saw-us came 4th overall in the series.
Round 1 vs. Orac's Revenge - Won
Orac's Revenge attacked first, trying to use the hammer/axe effectively, but then Steg-o-saw-us showcased its strong pushing power by ramming Orac into the arena wall. It did this several times, before shoving Orac into the pit and winning its first match.
Round 2 vs. Henry - Won
Henry did not move, until Steg-o-saw-us tried to ram him. Steg-o-saw-us missed and ended up over the flame grill. Henry then, narrowly escaped Sgt. Bash after wandering into his CPZ, but for some reason, immediately drove into the CPZ at the other corner where Shunt was stationed. Henry managed to get its spike stuck in the arena wall and Steg-o-saw-us and the house robots ganged up and attacked it. Steg-o-saw-us won its second match.
Round 3 vs. Napalm - Won
Steg-o-saw-us immediately drove at Napalm and rammed it into Shunt's CPZ. Steg-o-saw-us tried to push Napalm again, but was briefly trapped against the arena wall by Napalm. The house robots began to move in, but Steg-o-saw-us escaped and started to ram Napalm repeatedly with some force, getting underneath Napalm and destroying parts of the robot's flimsy armour. The house robots then moved in on an immobilised Napalm and Steg was declared the winner of Heat G.
Round 4 vs. Gravedigger - Won
Steg-o-saw-us and Gravedigger fought a lengthy and even battle with lots of pushing two and fro. At one point, Steg’s spiked tail became stuck under Gravedigger’s battered front, and they began to push Gravedigger backwards. At another, Gravedigger managed to get underneath Steg at a CPZ and they tried to topple Steg with their flipping ram. Steg wouldn’t go over, and broke free to continue the battle. This battle went to a judges’ decision, in which Steg-o-saw-us was declared the winner.
Round 5 vs. Beast of Bodmin - Won
Steg drove into Beast of Bodmin, repeatedly, crumpling the front of the robot’s wedge. After a while of shoving, Beast of Bodmin became immobilised, and the house robot’s put it on the arena flipper. Beast of Bodmin was flipped and cease was called. Steg-o-saw-us had won its second semi-final battle and had progressed to the Grand Final;.
Round 6 vs. Hypno-Disc - Lost
Steg-o-saw-us rammed Hypno-disc and pushed them a few times during this battle, ramming them hard into the arena wall at one point, but Hypno-disc quickly caused fatal damage to Steg. First, their disc caused several gashes on the weak side armour and then after subsequent hits, the torn armour jammed into the wheels of Steg-o-saw-us, immobilising them. The shoving Steg gave Hypno-disc during this battle may have been responsible for the failure of Hypno-disc’s drive sprocket during their battle with Chaos 2.

The robot was called Steg 2, was equipped with a rear flipper and was seeded 7th. Steg 2 was based around the same chassis and drive train as the previous robot, but the checker armour was exchanged for polycarbonate.

Round 3 vs. Mortis - Won
Round 4 vs. Chaos 2 - Lost

The robot was called 3 Stegs 2 Heaven from here onwards, and was equipped with a spinning cutter. The robot was again green with red plates/spikes and used checker plated armour, but a very different shape and design.
Round 1 vs. Eleven - Won
Round 2 vs. Tetanus - Won
Round 3 vs. Bigger Brother - Lost
The team also participated in the first series of Robot Wars Extreme with 3 Stegs, losing their first round battle of the All-Stars Tournament to Tornado.
