Stayner, Ontario

Stayner is a community in the township of Clearview, Simcoe County , Ontario , Canada. It is located near Georgian Bay, near the towns of Collingwood and Wasaga Beach at the junction Ontario provincial highway 26 and Airport Road.

It has a (2006) population of approximately 3400 people[1]. There are two elementary schools and one high school, and numerous recreational facilities are available. The highest level of (men's) hockey in this community is played by the Stayner Siskins. The town also has several active service clubs, including the Stayner Lions Club, the Kinsmen Club and the Royal Canadian Legion. As well, there is the Stayner Horticultural Society and the Stayner Heritage Society. Stayner is the urban centre of Clearview Township, which includes the villages of Nottawa, Duntroon, Dunedin, Creemore and New Lowell. News in the municipality is delivered by The Stayner Sun, a weekly newspaper serving the community since 1877. The paper is part of the Metroland Media Group, a subsidiary of Torstar. Stayner has a vibrant Chamber of Commerce, which hosts several community functions each year. Most notably is a free summer concert series called Music in the Park. The concert series is based at the picturesque Station Park.
