"Stay Away" is a song by the 1990s grunge band, Nirvana. It is the tenth song on their 1991 album, Nevermind. The lyrics were written by Kurt Cobain, and the music by Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl. The lyrics of the song are Kurt's attack on conformity. The line screamed by Kurt at the end of the song "God is gay" comes from a line Kurt claimed he used to spraypaint on buildings and trucks as a teenager. The original title of the song was "Pay to Play", which appears on the With the Lights Out box set.
