"Turn It Up"
(2006) |
"Stars Are Blind" was the first single from Paris Hilton's debut, self-titled album Paris. It officially premiered on radio stations such as New York's Z100 and L.A's KIIS-FM on June 2, 2006 following live introductions from Hilton, via telephone. The single was officially released for digital download on June 20, 2006. The song, which has a reggae sound, was produced by Fernando Garibay. [1] The song has been heavily criticised for reportedly plagiarising UB40's song "Kingston Town".
[edit] Music video
Hilton on the beach with her lover.
Hilton shot the video for the single on a Malibu, California beach on May 24, 2006. The video for the song features many images of her walking and rolling around on the beach with a lover. It premiered on June 6, 2006 on MTV. The video is stated to be the International Version Video.
A second version of the video was shot for the European countries, featuring Hilton's lover (played by Lucas Babin) from the beach as her photographer at a photoshoot. In this version, scenes from the beach are still present, but exist as Hilton's fantasies during the photoshoot. At the end of the video, she wins the affection of her photographer, but ends up just taking his keys and stealing his car. The second version premiered on Z100's website on July 5, 2006. [1].The video is often called "Version 2" or "Black & White Version". The stars are blind video has been seen more than eight hundred thousand times on Youtube.

[edit] Trivia
- After a long wait and reports that "Screwed" and "Turn It Up" would be Paris' first single, "Stars Are Blind" was finally released as the first.
- At one point during shooting for the video, Paris' bathing suit top fell down and revealed one of her breasts.[3] Despite reaching the Internet, it only resulted in minor publicity - most likely due to the 1 Night in Paris incident that preceded it.
- Luny Tunes helped create the remix to this song featuring Reggaeton rappers Wisin Y Yandel.
- The video premiered in Canada on June 6, 2006 on the MuchMusic network.
- The song was released on the iTunes Music Store on June 20th, 2006.
- At #18, "Stars Are Blind" is 2006's sixth highest debuting single in the Billboard Hot 100, behind Taylor Hicks's "Do I Make You Proud" (1), Beyonce's "Ring The Alarm" (12), Katharine McPhee's "Over the Rainbow/My Destiny" (12), Danity Kane's "Show Stopper" (17), and Ashley Parker Angel's "Let U Go" (17).
- India's Central Film Censor Board banned this video from being shown on television, due to "indecent representation of women". However, the song will be played in the radio and the video will be available for watching online.
