Star was released in 1993. during the initial period of popularity of "alternative rock". It was an unexpected success, going gold in the US. Single "Feed the Tree" became a #1 Modern Rock hit, and the album was nominated for three Grammys. The same year, the band was featured on the cover of Rolling Stone.
