StarCraft Pirate Militias

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the parallel StarCraft universe, there are a number of Terran pirate militias which have caused conflict with the Terran Confederacy and the Terran Dominion. The Confederacy considered the Kel-Morian Combine and the Umojan Protectorate to be pirate militias, as well.

[edit] Colonial Liberation Army

The Colonial Liberation Army was an anti-Confederate militia before the outbreak of war with the Protoss and Zerg.

Before the rise of the Sons of Korhal, the Colonial Liberation Army challenged the Terran Confederacy. Its greatest action was the capture of Tyra Mining Station. The Army divided the attacking Confederates into small groups and fought skirmishes with them. However, the Confederates defeated them through the use of "nuked earth" tactics.

[edit] Confederate Resistance Forces

The Confederate Resistance Forces was an anti-Terran Dominion commando squad based on Braxis.

Samir Duran was a Lieutenant in Alpha Squadron before it defected to the Sons of Korhal rebel movement. He remained as the rebels became the main government, the Terran Dominion, but this seems to have been a ploy to gather information on the Dominion.

Eventually, he left with a commando squad which he called the Confederate Resistance Forces. They had sworn to defeat the Terran Dominion and restore the Terran Confederacy.

His forces joined the United Earth Directorate Expeditionary Force as colonial conscripts, and their current fate is unknown.

[edit] Kimeran Pirates

The Kimeran Pirates are a small pirate militia; they have been known to raid Terran installations for important Terran secrets for sale to the highest bidder. Their membership includes Captain Buzan, Manic (a Ghost), Twitch (another Ghost), Velicheck (a brilliant inventor) and even one or more Dark Templar, known as Shadow Pirates.

The Kimerans have access to very advanced technology, including enhancements to their battlecruiser, the Kimeran Juggernaut. It has onboard transporters and is almost impossible to track. Velichek has also significantly upgraded the traditional Ghost technology.

In Deceptions, one of their most recent missions involved a raid on a Terran Confederacy remnant science facility. Buzan said the information collected on this raid would gather his agents valuable shore leave. During the mission, they encountered Morik, an Infested Terran, as well as Infested Stukov, who should have been dead at that point. The facility was destroyed by the men who operated it, and as they fled with the information, they were followed by cloaked Wraiths.

In Mercenaries II, they were attacked by mercenaries hired by Infested Stukov as they took shelter on a dark planet. Despite banding with other enemies of Stukov, they were defeated by the mercenaries and the Kimeran Juggernaut was destroyed. Their current fate is unknown.

[edit] Koprulu Liberation Front

The Koprulu Liberation Front is a rebel army involved in a bitter struggle with the Terran Dominion, four years after the death of the second Zerg Overmind.

They are responsible for building at least one prototype of the Terran Grizzly[1] and at least some of their forces are hiding out on Abaddon.

The KPL took over a munitions factory on New Sydney but were defeated by Nova.

[edit] New Trinidad Pirates[2]

The New Trinidad Pirates, based on space platforms over the empty world of New Trinidad, have attacked ships and outposts throughout the Koprulu Sector for decades. Due to recent Terran civil wars, the creation of a standing militia strong enough to deal with them was impossible.

In an attack from their nearly impregnable space station over New Trinidad, sustained shelling from Arclite Siege Tanks led to the death of Jacqueline Angel, heiress to the Angel Shipping empire.

The shipping conglomerate devoted considerable funds to hiring groups of mercenaries to remove the pirate threat once and for all. The mercenaries appear to have been successful.

The pirates were introduced (and destroyed) in the map Mercenaries.

The concept seems to have been borrowed from the game system Alternity's setting, Star*Drive, another space opera setting. The New Trinidad pirates in that setting are based out of the Lucullus star system in the Verge of settled space. TSR, the same company that created Alternity, created a crossover product entitled StarCraft: Alternity.

[edit] Raynor's Raiders

Main article: Raynor's Raiders

Raynor's Raiders is an organization led by Jim Raynor and is comprised of both Terran troops and the Protoss forces under the command of Raynor's Protoss compatriot, Fenix. It represents the possibility of an alliance between the Terran and Protoss species. Originally, many of Raynor's team were surviving members of the Mar Saran Militia, evacuated by the Sons of Korhal alongside Raynor and the Magistrate hours before the world was sterilized by Tassadar's taskforce fleet. Raynor, being a charismatic and virtuous individual, also made an impression on many of the men placed under his command during his service under Arcturus Mengsk. Many of these men joined "Raynor's Raiders" after Mengsk's betrayal of Sarah Kerrigan above Tarsonis, aiding him in his escape from General Edmund Duke.

[edit] Schezar's Scavengers

Schezar's Scavengers are a mercenary militia led by notorious criminal, Alan Schezar. The Scavengers became infamous after an incident involving the use of Khaydarin Crystal technology to control Zerg Cerebrates. These Cerebrates were used by the group to assist them with their criminal activities. The Scavengers were quickly disposed of by the Terran Dominion before they were able to pose any real significant threat.

In detail, the cerebrates and their swarm forces were utilised as shields for Schezar's forces, having them raid a Protoss Temple on Aiur and acquire forbidden Protoss technology which was explored in the bonus scenario, StarCraft: Enslavers. For attacking Aiur, he was confronted by Mojo, a Praetor of the Protoss Defense Forces. The Scavengers captured Mojo and his allies and placed them in Stasis Cells. Controlling Stasis Cells is supposed to be impossible for Terrans, but Schezar may have used the stolen technology to accomplish this.

Using the captured technology, along with Khaydarin Crystals taken from High Templar kidnapped from Aiur, the Scavengers were able to command a Zerg Cerebrate on an unnamed Terran planet. This brought him into conflict with Terran Dominion Emperor Arcturus Mengsk, who was trying to consolidate his power over all Terran worlds in the Koprulu Sector.

During the initial attack, a detachment of Alpha Squadron, which Mengsk had sent to deal with the problem, discovered Zerg working with the Scavengers. When they discovered a larger Scavenger base on the planet, they located the Cerebrate, which was controlling the Zerg, and captured High Templar. Mengsk ordered the Cerebrate slain. Mojo, despite being trapped in a Stasis Cell, was able to use his psionic abilities to communicate with the Alpha Squadron detachment commander. Mojo convinced him to rescue the Protoss instead, arguing that the Scavengers could capture a Cerebrate at any time with their forbidden technology, but freeing the High Templar would deny a source of Khaydarin Crystals from Schezar.

The Alpha Squadron detachment travelled to Aiur, where they defeated the Scavengers and freed Mojo and his allies. From there, they travelled to a very large Scavenger base on Aiur. The Scavengers worked with the Zerg and the Cerebrate they had brought there. However, the large Scavenger force was defeated by the Alpha Squadron/Protoss alliance. Alan Schezar was not found, however.

[edit] Dark Vengeance

Schezar's Scavengers made a comeback in Enslavers: Dark Vengeance, having struck an alliance with renegade Dark Templar led by Ulrejaz after the Protoss of Aiur settled the Dark Templar homeworld, Shakuras. It is possible these Scavengers were a completely new forced retained by Alan Schezar.

Schezar's primary base was located on Braxis. There he worked with Ulrejaz, a Dark Templar who hated the high-born Templar from Aiur. Schezar's Scavengers built a giant EMP generator, which could be used to drain shields and energy sources from Protoss technology. It had no effect on Ulrejaz's forces, the Fist of Ulrejaz, however.

Ulrejaz travelled to Aiur on a mission of personal vengeance with three compatriots. They were captured there and transported to Shakuras. However, Ulrejaz had paid Schezar well to rescue him, so a large Schezar's Scavengers force travelled to Shakuras, rescuing Ulrejaz at great loss. Ulrejaz stole a Khaydarin Crystal from Shakuras during his escape.

Zeratul and Mojo led a revenge force after Ulrejaz, following evidence that Ulrejaz had fled to Korhal IV. The planet, throne world of the Terran Dominion, was in chaos. The Protoss were not sure if Mengsk himself was in command there. Schezar's Scavengers worked side by side with Zerg, leading Mojo to believe the Terrans who attacked Shakuras and who were stationed here worked for Alan Schezar. He was correct, but for the wrong reasons. The Zerg were actually under the control of Ulrejaz.

The Schezar's Scavengers are a mercenary force, whose loyalty was to themselves and money first. They surrendered to the Protoss, who let them leave the planet. Their commanding officer told Zeratul and Mojo that Schezar's primary base was on Braxis.

Zeratul sent a small squad of Protoss to assassinate Schezar, whom they located in his fortress. They had to fight past Zerg as well as Schezar's Scavengers to get to him. Once there, his forces disabled Schezar's Goliath. Schezar quickly surrendered, and even turned over control of the Scavengers forces to the Protoss. The Zerg surrounding his base were not under his control, he pointed out. They would try to slay him because he was now telling secrets about Ulrejaz. The relationship between the Scavengers and the Fist of Ulrejaz had changed, when Ulrejaz became a powerful Dark Archon. Instead of working for money, the Scavengers worked for their lives. After a desperate battle, where the Protoss controlled the Scavengers' troops, the Scavengers and Protoss defeated the Zerg.

[edit] EMP Generator

The EMP generator was discovered unfinished in the Scavenger base on Braxis. It is activated on a space platform over Shakuras in the non-canonical ending of Enslavers: Dark Vengeance.

The generator powers up slowly, then releases the stored energy is a fantastic electromagnetic pulse. The time needed to charge up the energy to use the EMP is 10 minutes. When seen, the EMP only effect the player's forces. Ulrejaz and his minions were somehow able to avoid the effects. When it activates, all Protoss units lose all their Shield points. This is similar to the EMP Shockwave employed by the Science Vessel, but only drains Shields and not energy.

[edit] Final Vengeance

Ulrejaz had two plans for vengeance, however. Without the EMP Generator, he would still use his other plan. Ulrejaz was using a Warp Gate to bring his Zerg, which he controlled on Char, to his space platform over Shakuras. From there, he would use five warped Khaydarin Crystals to modify the Zerg, making them more powerful and immune to the effects of the Xel'Naga Temple, which could reach the platform. These enhanced Zerg would eventually descend to the surface of Shakuras, killing the Protoss there. The Dark Templar would retreat to their hidden places, while the Protoss of Aiur would be caught in the open and destroyed by these Zerg. Thus, Ulrejaz would get his revenge on the Protoss of Aiur.

In return for not being judged, Schezar would assist the depleted Protoss forces against the Fist of Ulrejaz. However, Ulrejaz wanted none of that. He sent assassins into Schezar's base to kill him. They succeeded. The Scavengers swore revenge against "that crazy Dark Archon" and worked alongside the Protoss alliance of Shakuras to defeat the Fist of Ulrejaz. Afterwards, the Scavengers left Shakuras. Their current fate is unknown.
