Star, Fife

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Star (also known as Star Of Markinch) is a small village in Fife, Scotland

It is located near Markinch and Kennoway. Star enjoys views of the Lomond Hills

Many joke about the size of the village, however it has enjoyed a boost in the number of houses being built in recent years. Star now has an estimated 500 residents. There are relatively few amenities even for a small village. In the past there have been two post offices but both were closed. Now star only has a Public house called The Plough Inn. However, The Plough has been closed since May 2006, and is currently up for sale.

Star Primary School has benefited from the recent housing boost as it has been threatened with closure many time in the past. The village hall is an amenity used by many. Many groups such as The youth club, Bowls, Playgroup and Knitting Club make use of the Hall. Every year the village puts on a gala day which is attended by many residents. In 2006 retired referee John Rowbotham will open the gala.
