Stapenhill

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stapenhill is an area and civil parish in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. Sometimes deemed locally as "the other side of the river", it could be considered a village, although in comparison with nearby Walton-on-Trent, this is not so much the case.

Stapenhill Gardens is the epitome of Stapenhill. Its main feature is a gigantic model swan with flowers planted in it. This represents the gardens' main inhabitants, the swans. In a similar vein, the local football team is known as The Stapenhill Swans. Stapenhill Gardens is also the location of the annual "Tulip Festival."

Major pubs in the area include The Copper Hearth, The Punch Bowl and The Barley Mow.

Other local features include a C of E church and a cemetery. The main Secondary Schools in the area are Paulet High School, and Robert Sutton Catholic High School.

The village is east of the Trent, and thus was administered as part of Derbyshire until the Local Government Act 1888.
