Stanton is a city in Powell County, Kentucky, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 3,029. It is the county seat of Powell CountyGR6.
Stanton is the birthplace of Hall of Fame thoroughbred horse trainer Woody Stephens.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 3,029 people, 1,222 households, and 856 families residing in the city. The population density was 593.7/km² (1,538.0/mi²). There were 1,340 housing units at an average density of 262.6/km² (680.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.01% White, 0.43% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.03% Asian, 0.03% from other races, and 0.23% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.73% of the population.
There were 1,222 households out of which 33.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.8% were married couples living together, 16.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.9% were non-families. 26.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.87.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.4% under the age of 18, 11.6% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 91.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.0 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $25,750, and the median income for a family was $29,781. Males had a median income of $25,081 versus $20,432 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,521. About 19.5% of families and 22.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 29.2% of those under age 18 and 21.4% of those age 65 or over.
