Stanmer House
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stanmer House is a Grade I listed mansion west of the village of Falmer and north-east of the city of Brighton and Hove.
It stands very close to Stanmer village and Church, within the 4598 acre[citation needed] Stanmer Park. Constructed in 1722 in a Palladian style for the Pelham family, it incorporates the remains of an earlier house, and was again altered in 1860.
Close to the University of Sussex campus, the house was used as a university administration building for some years while the campus was being built.
It is currently undergoing extensive renovation and is closed to the public, but much of the estate is open (see Stanmer Park).
