Standards based school
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Standards Based Schools are schools that use the requirements of the surrounding schools/ school districts and convert the requirements into standards. A standard is a breakdown of the overall requirements of the class requirements.
Example: Reading Analyzes and author's reasoning and style
In theory each level should correspond with a specific class however standards based schools have a habbit of mashing standards together and having higher graduating requirements by making upper level classes part of the required curriculum.
The grading systems for these schools are based on a per standard level and if a standard is not completed to the school's requirements you do not pass the level. Highland Tech High School requires an 80% or above for each standard completed. The grades are as follows- Advanced
Proficient
Developing
Emerging
All standards must be proficient(80%) however the focus of these is not do put a percentage grade on each level of mastery. Advanced is reserved for complete mastery to the extent that you can teach the skill.
