Stan Richards

Stanley "Stan" Richards (born 8 December 1930; Barnsley, South Yorkshire, United Kingdom - died 11 February 2005; Barnsley) was a north-country British television actor, best known for his portrayal of the loveable rogue and ex-gamekeeper, Seth Armstrong, in popular ITV soap serial Emmerdale (formerly Emmerdale Farm), a role he played exclusively from May 1978 until his death of emphysema in 2005, having been originally "signed" to the series for a run of just 4 weeks. He had previously acted in 6 episodes of Coronation Street, having started his career aged 15 as a pub pianist and later as a stand-up comic before turning actor. He was born and died in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

He died on 11 February 2005 of emphysema. His life and work were honoured at the British Soap Awards in 2005.
