Stagecoach Merseyside
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stagecoach Merseyside is a major operator of bus services in the English city of Liverpool and in the surrounding area of Merseyside. It is a subsidiary of the Stagecoach Group.
When Arriva bought its main Merseyside rival M.T.L. Holdings Ltd, it was forced to dispose of its Gilmoss depot by the Competition Commission. A management buyout in 2001 led to the creation of Glenvale Transport Ltd, and the company expanded services in competition with Arriva by using a selection of elderly double deck vehicles. It also bought a smaller rival in the area, CMT Buses, to expand the operations to around 290 vehicles working out of two depots.
Although efforts were made to update the fleet with more modern single deck vehicles, the management at Glenvale eventually sold the company to Stagecoach in July 2005. Since then, 75 new low floor single deck buses have entered service with the company, with many mid-life vehicles arriving from other Stagecoach companies.
