The Connecticut town of Stafford is located in the northeastern corner of the State. The community is comprised of the downtown burough district, know as Stafford Springs, plus the more rural areas know as Staffordville and West Stafford. The town was originally named after Stafford, England, and the downtown, springs area added the SPRINGS to that name to reflect the presence of the now dry natural springs and therapeutic baths that attracted the early colonial visitor to the area. Since they are gone, the town is now a quiet one.

While the Town has managed to maintain its hometown New England Milltown charm and culture, it is becoming a bedroom commuter community feeding into larger area communities. Many residents drive into the towns of Hartford and Enfield, Connecticut, as well as Springfield, Massachusetts - all of these communities can be reached with about a 20-minute auto commute. It is about a half-hour drive the University of Connecticut Campus, located in Storrs, CT.

Stafford’s recent population growth is primarily due to rural quality of life, the availability of affordable, quality building lots, and the reasonable (at least for Connecticut) property tax rate. The Town has fairly new high school and middle school, and is building a new elementary school to be staffed and filled with students in the fall of 2006. There is also a local hospital, Johnson Memorial that provides a full range of medical services.

There is an active City Recreation Program, with organized sporting events for the younger set. There is a well-managed Senior Center that provides travel opportunities and entertainment for the older residents. Stafford Motor Speedway is a significant tourist attraction, and its oval track race events are held throughout the summer months. Excellent fishing spots are located with a few minutes of the city center. Overall, a nice, small New England community.
