Stade François Coty

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stade François Coty is the home of the Corsican football club AC Ajaccio in Ajaccio. It can hold 10,660 spectators.

The stadium was inaugurated on December 1, 1969 under the name "Parc des Sports de l'ACA", but was informally called the "Stade Timizzilo". At this time, it could hold 12,000 spectators of which 6,000 seated. On the opening day, no less than 15,000 people turned up to see a derby match between AC Ajaccio and SC Bastia.

The ground was renamed "Stade François Coty" in homage to the extremely right wing ex-mayor of Ajaccio.

During the last few seasons, the ground has undergone several changes. Still, the stadium isn't up to the Ligue 1 norms.
