[edit] General

Umm...why is the Omega directive so important?

Because Omega is totally unstable it is liable to explode. When it explodes it damages subspace and prevents warp travel, which means that you can't travel. If a culture can't travel anything can happen - cross-planetary trade collapses, economic failure, cultural stagnation etc. Thats why it overrides everything - Omega must be stopped! Hope this answers your question. Pydos 12:43, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Errr... I think argiculture has nothing to do with Star Trek. can someone editting the portal page? (I wish I can, but I'm no an expert in editng pages or Star Trek)Ang Ling Yuen 09:18, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

Ok, I had make some editting, including the Featured Article, Wikiproject and Things To Do. One question, though: can someone add the link to this portal on the 'Other Portals' box? I don't know how to do so. Ang Ling Yuen 11:51, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

Added pages, tweaked links and changed the first article and picture...sorry but i felt it needed to be done. On the plus side i've added to it in a good way too. Pydos 15:56, 24 November 2005 (UTC)

The portal page is broken for me (firefox 1.5 running on windows XP). Specifically, the section with links to the movies appears underneath two other sections, making it partially illegible and the text it appears under hard to read. Althai 10:41, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, I kind of fixed it, although it's not ideal since there's a lot of whitespace now. jacoplane 10:48, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
I moved the "Things you can do" section from the right to the middle, and that reduced a lot of the white space. Althai 12:21, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lists

Over on the Doctor Who Portal there's actually a link to a list of things to be done. Perheaps that could be used here? Tenchi Muyo 20:21, 21 December 2005 (UTC)Tenchi Muyo

It has been addedLcarsdata Talk | E-mail | My Contribs 14:29, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Small MemoryAlpha issue

Just a heads-up (didn't know where to put this), but Wikipedia episode article titles with parenthesized series qualifiers don't link seamlessly through the template to the matching article on MemoryAlpha where they're listed just by episode title without a qualifier. The way to handle this might be to write a redirect on the destination page at MA, but there are soooo many episodes. Sounds like a job for a well written bot. knoodelhed 08:00, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Do you want to put it with the jobs list on the portal menu? Tenchi Muyo 17:07, 18 January 2006 (UTC)Tenchi Muyo
I can't help with this directly as my time and skills are limited. No objection, but whoever wants to take it up might want to coordinate with someone with MA to make sure no toes get stepped on. ;) knoodelhed 19:50, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] News

Despite Paramount Pictures' threats to end the Star Trek franchise after series 4 of Enterprise they have relented and agreed to fund another series

Could a link (either internal or external of the Wikiworld) be provided for this? It's a bold claim to make without backup. - Hayter 23:26, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

This news has not been supported by the official StarTrek.Com website. There is no such news there. --86.129.24.105 18:11, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
I've removed the content of the news section. - Hayter 13:24, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Link back to the portal?

Perheaps someone could design a way to link the portal homepage to most pages that portal is meant to serve. I also suggested this over at the doctor who portal, they have the link on their disscussion pages.example of linkTenchi Muyo 10:20, 16 March 2006 (UTC)Tenchi Muyo

Sounds like a good idea and something you see with most other portals (with some including small links on the page proper). The biggest problem is (and it's easily remedied in theory), is that the Star Trek Portal doesn't seem very active. It could do with a group of members to work on it and not only keep it ticking along, but work on things such as ST article standards, inclusion of semi/non-canon data and the like. There's little point including the links if this is just an infrequently updated page. - Hayter 14:13, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
  • Well its kind of a cycle - a wiki thrives on traffic - low traffic means fewer changes / fewer changes means lower traffic. What the portal needs is a schedule for updates (New Main Article once a month, with a list of candidates). Ill build this when I have the time. Dan, the CowMan 14:40, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
  • I've now started this as well. Dan, the CowMan 17:02, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
  • I have added a link to the portal on the talk page header template. Now every talk page will provide a link here. Dan, the CowMan 03:17, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
I've also added the header to a number of articles. But which is the best place to keep an eye on for developments (say, AFDs) concerning Star Trek articles? Here, or on the project page? - Hayter 20:13, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
This is considered a subsection of the main project, so the developments should be reported at the project page. Dan, the CowMan 23:04, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Selected Picture

Maybe we could have a selected picture as the portal needs a bit more color as it is very plain (just text mainly) and there is usually no pictures at all. Lcarsdata Talk | E-mail | My Contribs 12:36, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

There was a mild catfight when we used pictures - hence the spartan look. Personally i'm with you, and DON'T think it infringes fair use, but there ya go. I certainly like the cute logos. Pydos 19:28, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regular Charecters box color

I think that we should change the blue of the regulars box to red for consistency however I can't work out the shade. Could someone help. Lcarsdata Talk | E-mail | My Contribs 14:28, 15 April 2006 (UTC) Fixed Lcarsdata Talk | E-mail | My Contribs 11:20, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Portal directory

I was paging through the Portal directory and noticed that Star Trek was missing. I couldn't figure out how to add it, though (it must be more complicated than just copying the code for Stargate..). --Fang Aili 說嗎? 17:56, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Nevermind; it's there now. --Fang Aili 說嗎? 20:05, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Parese squares

We may have a problem with this; sod all infomation. All i can remember:

"It looks like wall tennis with the wall divided into four quarters, on which two diagonals share the same colour. It can be violent and requires a minimum age of about 16, but often this is violated. The winning of a Parese squares tournament during Picard's days at the Academy inspired one of the biggest ever parties on the San Francisco campus (The First Duty) suggesting it is popular among Federation personnel." Frankly no better than a stub - anyone remember anything else? Pydos 11:43, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Star Trek Games

Will there be future linking to the Star Trek gaming sections? Ive beefed up the older section at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Star_Trek_computer_and_video_games however there are other ones at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_games as well so its getting a bit confusing as to which one to edit. KatVee 05:19, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

The first one is a category. Information should go in Star Trek games. Propound 07:03, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Well it's a bit late telling me now since you deleted 3 or 4 paragraphs of info that took me an hour to type out and research :( I wont be typing all that out again. KatVee 08:09, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Nothing is deleted. Find it in the history of the page. Dan, the CowMan 08:14, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
