Star Trek collectively refers to six science fiction television series spanning 726 episodes, ten motion pictures, hundreds of novels, eight Table-top role-playing games, two trading card games, many console & computer video games, many action figures & ready made or build your own model/model kit spaceships (etc), a host of Lego products, and other works of fiction, all set within the same fictional universe created by Gene Roddenberry in the early- to mid-1960s/late-1980s/late-1990s and early 2000s. It depicts an optimistic future in which humankind has overcome sickness, racism, poverty, intolerance, and warfare on Earth; the central characters explore the galaxy, finding new worlds and meeting new civilizations, while helping to promote peace and understanding. Star Trek is one of the most popular names in the history of science fiction entertainment, and one of the most popular franchises in television history.
Nichelle Nichols (born Grace Nichols on December 28, 1933) is an American singer and actress. She sang with Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton before turning to acting. Her most famous role was playing communications officer Lieutenant Uhura aboard the USS Enterprise in the popular Star Trek television series, as well as the succeeding motion picture spinoffs, where her character was eventually promoted in Starfleet to the rank of commander.
Nichelle Nichols was born in Robbins, Illinois, near Chicago. Her father was both the town mayor of Robbins and its chief magistrate. She studied in Chicago as well as New York and Los Angeles. During her time in New York, Nichelle appeared at the famous "Blue Angel" and Playboy Clubs, as a singer. She also appeared in the role of Carmen for a Chicago stock company production of Carmen Jones.
She has twice been nominated for the Sara Siddon Award as best actress and is an accomplished dancer and singer. Her first Siddon nomination was for her portrayal of Hazel Sharp in Kicks and Co., and the second for her performance in The Blacks.

The most notable member of the Q Continuum is played by John de Lancie, a mischievous Q who, having taken an interest in humans, periodically harasses the crews of starships and space stations. He also has a flair for the dramatic, whisking away the crew to exotic locations, engaging in elaborate speeches, and snapping his fingers to engender many of his manifestations. He has a highly mercurial personality, switching rapidly between a joking, campy style and a much more ominous and even dangerous manner. While he is very boastful, condescending and occasionally threatening, he arguably seems to have humanity's best interests at heart. This Q was apparently something of a rebel within the Q race, and his antics occasionally got him into trouble with his fellow Q and served as an inspiration for the Q that the Voyager crew would know as Quinn.
Q is one of the most beloved recurring characters on Star Trek: The Next Generation, in large part because of the comedic and dramatic chemistry between actors de Lancie and Patrick Stewart (who plays Picard, captain of the Enterprise). Data characterized the relationship between the two much like that between a master and its pet. Q served as something of a foil to the sometimes high-flown idealism of Picard: "Really, Jean-Luc, I think the only reason I come here is to listen to those wonderful speeches" he says once. Not surprisingly, even though Q's Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager appearances were less appreciated by many people, he remains as one of Star Trek's most beloved and timeless characters.
Q often manifests himself wearing a Starfleet Captain's uniform, particularly to annoy Picard
The Breen are a mysterious race most well known for their alliance with The Dominion in Star Trek: Deep Space 9. Their mysterious ways are perceived by the fact that they conceal themselves inside sophisticated, metallic and quite militaristic type suits. The Breen ‘’claim’’ that the suits are specially adapted for their physiology, as they require an arctic environment. However this can be disputed as Weyoun comments that he likes the temperate climate that they have. Some even feel that there is perhaps enough evidence to intimate that their home world may not even be an arctic world.
Their role in the Alpha quadrant was only slight however their presence was really felt when in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in and beyond the episode Strange Bedfellows when they signed a treaty with the Dominion to fight along side them. Their effect on the alpha quadrant can be felt through out Star Trek: The Next Generation when they are mentioned on various occasions, but also in Star Trek: Voyager when they appear as a hologram enhanced by the Hirogen. They are even mentioned in Star Trek: Generations.
