St Macartan's Cathedral

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

St Macartan's Cathedral was constructed between 1861 and 1891 and designed by Irish Architect J.J McCarthy's. McCarthy died during the construction of the Cathedral and the work was continued by William Hague. Originally the nave was intended to be 2 bays longer but lack of funds meant that the design was cut back. The building sits on a hill overlooking Monaghan Town and is quite imposing.
