St John's Grammar School

St John's Grammar School was founded in 1958 and is a coeducational Anglican school situated in Belair, in the foothills south-east of Adelaide, South Australia offering preschool to Year 12. It operates from three campuses; the Junior school is adjacent to Belair National Park, the Early Learning Center is opposite the Junior School, and the Middle and Senior School, set up in 1998, occupies the site of a former retreat house (nunnery) and theological college.

Stephen Matthews is the current Principal of St John's Grammar. He came to this role in 2000 following the retirement of Dorothy Pargeter after many years as Principal. The Pargeter Building has been named in her honour. Other former Principals were Ron Tuckwell, Annie Milne and Elizabeth Lapedus.

St John's Grammar School has four houses named after four pioneers of the Belair area - Gooch, Halstead, Moffat and Prince. The school has a pastoral care system through which students are placed into one of these houses and encouraged to participate in House Life.

The school offers a range of subjects to its students, who begin electing their courses from Year 8. St John's has traditionally had a strong emphasis on music, winning numerous awards in this area ^{[citation needed]}. Despite the limited facilities of a growing school, students have consistently displayed high levels of academic achievement ^{[citation needed]}. The school also offers numerous co-curricular activites and sports.
