St Benedict's School

St Benedict's School, Ealing, West London, is a Roman Catholic independent day school. The school is part of Ealing Abbey and is governed by the Abbot and monks of Ealing. The school was founded in 1902 by Fr Sebastian Cave, and is still the only Benedictine day school in England, the other Benedictine schools all taking boarding pupils.
Although St Benedict's offers mainly education for boys (from nursery to sixth form), girls are admitted in both the nursery and sixth form sections of the school. In June 2006, the Monastic Chapter voted to introduce co-education into the whole school from 2007 in the juniors, and 2008 in the seniors.
The school has many famous almuni, including Chris Patten (now Lord Patten of Barnes), who serves as an Advisory Governor to the school and is himself Chancellor of the University of Oxford. Other almuni include Christopher Caudwell, Peter Ackroyd, Labi Siffre, Julian Clary and Andy Serkis.
The school is renowned for its success in various fields, including rugby, cricket and music. The school also has a very good record in terms of Oxford entrances.
