St. Matthew's Church, Singapore

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

St. Matthew's Church is an Anglican church in Singapore, one of over twenty in the country. It has the longest history of any Chinese Church within the Diocese of Singapore.

It was founded on 29 September 1902, beginning as a Cantonese congregation under St. Peter's Church. It became a parish in 1929 with its own building at Neil Road, and later had a kindergarten. The present building, located at 1K Eng Hoon Street, was dedicated to the glory of God on 7 May 2006 by the Most Revd Dr John Chew, who is the 3rd Archbishop of the Church of the Province of South East Asia as well as the 9th Bishop of Singapore.

As of 2006 the church has both English and Mandarin congregations, serving people from all parts of the island. The church's vision is "To D.A.R.E. for the Lord Jesus Christ so as to grow a community that continues to glorify Him. (Disciple; Align; Reach out; Exalt)"
