St. Mary of the Plains College

St. Mary of the Plains College was a four-year liberal arts college located in Dodge City, Kansas. In 1912, John Hennessy, then Bishop of Wichita, purchased the buildings and grounds of Dodge City's defunct Soule College (1893-1903) and in 1913 brought the Sisters of St. Joseph to Dodge City in order to operate a Catholic high school for day students and boarding students. The school became a four-year college in 1952. Its motto was, Sapientia Caritas Prudentia (Wisdom, Charity, Prudence). St. Mary of the Plains College was accredited in 1963 by The Higher Learning Commission and was a member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference
The school suffered from financial difficulties throughout its existence. The high school closed in 1968 and the college closed its doors in 1992.
