[edit] History

St. Margaret's was founded in 1979 by the Rev. Canon Ernest D. Sillers. The school began with only 79 students in kindergarten through grade six.

St. Margaret’s opened an Early Childhood Development Center in 1981 and its high school in 1982. By 1985, students were enrolled at all grade levels, from preschool through grade 12.

In 1986, St. Margaret’s brought in Markham B. Campaigne as its second headmasater. During his seventeen-year tenure, St. Margaret’s grew to serve over 1,200 students and expanded to a 20-acre campus. The school eventually rose in the ranks of prestigious private high schools and is inclided in Princeton Review's prestigious top 443 private schools in the United States book.

In 2003, Marcus D. Hurlbut joined the St. Margaret’s community as its third Headmaster. Mr. Hurlbut brings a history rich in independent school education, having served for eleven years as Headmaster of The Derryfield School in New Hampshire and for nine years as Headmaster of Friends Academy in New York. His arrival coincides with a new chapter in the growth and development of St. Margaret’s as the school looks to implement important new phases of its campus master plan.

The 2004 - 2005 school year marked the twenty-fifth year for St. Margaret's.

The current Lower School Principal is Tracy Linyard. She replaced Barbara Deubert in the 2006-2007 year. The current Middle School Principal is Jeannine Clark. Clark replaced David Boyle who is now the Upper School Principal. Boyle also serves as Associate Headmaster.
