[edit] History
St. Lawrence's economy was primarily based on fishing until the recent collapse of North American cod stock. The government of Canada has implemented a morotorium on cod fishing. A Fluorspar mine in St. Lawrence was once a major employer in the community until 1978, when Alcan closed the mine. A recent wind project has been announced by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador for St. Lawrence. The project will result in the installation of 14, 1.8MW turbines.
[edit] U.S.S Pollux and U.S.S Truxtun
On February 18, 1942, more than two hundred American sailors died when the U.S.S. Pollux and U.S.S Truxton ran aground in Chamber Cove.
[edit] Sport
Known as the 'Soccer Capital of Canada', the St. Lawrence Laurentians have provided some very competitive teams which have represented Newfoundland in many national championship tournaments.
