[edit] History

Established in 1891, the school is a Catholic boys' school, and caters for both day students and boarders. It is a member of the prestigious Queensland GPS Association. The location for the College was selected by Rev. Br. P.A. Treacy, founder of the Australian Province of the Christian Brothers, at the request of the Archbishop of Brisbane at the time, Most Rev. Robert Dunne D.D.. Rev. Br. D.F. Bodkin was appointed first Headmaster.

The main building, whose facade was used in the movie Phar Lap, was completed in 1891. The matching chapel was completed in 1916 and is frequently used for weddings and funerals in addition to school celebrations. In 1993, after refurbishment, it won Royal Australian Institute of Architects Conservation Award [1] and Regional Commendation. A second school building was completed in 1919. All 3 buildings were in Italian Renaissance Style. In 1938 Nudgee Junior College was opened at a separate campus in Indooroopilly. Building has continued at Boondall, and the campus now has an array of sporting and academic facilities including 2 swimming pools, tennis and basketball courts, a 9 hole golf course, rifle range, full track and field provision, numerous cricket and football ovals as well as an international college, and several halls.

[edit] Core Values

College Hymn

Beneath our vibrant spirit, beyond our victory,
Between our pride and glory, We are a Sign of Faith.

There's a love
I do not know

Other sounds and furies call:
Great honour, great glory
Great voice in great song

But when sound and fury fail that voice
And no real thing is great
I stand alone and dare to whisper love
I am a Sign of Faith

There's a love
I do not know

Other sounds and furies call:
Great honour, great glory
Great voice in great song

Fleeting life we have before us,
Yet always can we say:
One small man, ten thousand brothers,
We are a Sign of Faith.

[edit] Trivia

  • The school appeared in the Australian film Phar Lap.
  • The colors of the school (blue and white) were disputed by St. Joseph's Gregory Terrace and St. Joseph's Nudgee College. In Truth Gregory Terrace first held the blue and white colours but when Nudgee College was formed they also chose these colours. So in order to decide who got the colours, a rugby match was held between the two schools which Nudgee College won. St. Joseph's Gregory Terrace was then given the colours Red and Black as they make the two schools have opposite colours. This is something which is traditionaly taught between the two schools making this the biggest GPS games for both schools. The largest sports weekend between all GPS schools is referred to as Nudgee or Terrace Day.
  • In 1996, The NRL Footy Show filmed an episode in the Centenary Mall.
  • In 2004, Sanitarium used the Duhig Building and quadrangle to film an advert promoting Weet-Bix.
  • In 2005, Ford used Ross Oval to promote a sale at the time.
