Saint Bernard High School is a Roman Catholic High School located in Uncasville, Connecticut. It is the only coeducational Roman Catholic high school in the Diocese of Norwich. Saint Bernard was created in its current coeducational form via the 1972 merger of three all-girls/all-boys high schools.

Saint Bernard High School serves students from many communities in eastern Connecticut, especially within New London County. Enrollment is open to all applicants who meet its academic standards, as measured by an admission test and review of their previous academic performance. In September 2004 we welcomed 375 new and returning students.

The mission of Saint Bernard High School is to provide superior academic education, and promote development of the Christian values represented in the Gospels and in the living tradition of the Roman Catholic Church.

Scholarship, Spirit and Community are fundamental, shared values at Saint Bernard. They help to define our approach to education and our institutional vision. Study at Saint Bernard fosters students' intellectual growth, helps refine their understanding of spiritual faith, and encourages their social integration and service to others.

Historically Saint Bernard High School School has provided a secure, harmonious environment where students focus on academics, and where each can realize his or her full potential for learning and spiritual edification. Faculty and staff relate to students as responsible young adults. Mutual respect and good will characterize behaviors on campus, and help to shape our institutional culture.

Saint Bernard's encourages young people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds to enroll. Eighty percent of its students are Roman Catholic; 20% are of other faiths. This year Saint Bernard awarded $92,000 in financial aid grants to 57 qualified students from lower-income families.

The campus features a library, science laboratories, gymnasium, cafeteria, a 26-station computer laboratory with Internet access, superior fine-arts facilities and a chapel. It also has a 700-seat auditorium, one of the region's largest, and outdoor athletic facilities occupy more than 50 acres of our 113-acre campus.

Academics: Saint Bernard's academic standards are high. They offer required and elective courses in the standard college-preparatory disciplines. Based on their academic standing, students select courses on several levels - Skills Enrichment, College Preparatory, Honors and Advanced Placement. They are also accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and by the Connecticut State Department of Education.

Nearly all Saint Bernard seniors are accepted at colleges and universities, including some of the most highly regarded. Colleges value the preparation our students receive: the 80-90 members of its senior classes regularly receive aggregate college scholarship offers of between $1.5 and $2 million dollars. The achievements of nearly 10,000 Saint Bernard alumni testify to their readiness for successful college-level work and to their preparation for later leadership within their professions, parishes and communities.

Spiritual Programs and Student Life: Education at Saint Bernard is both directive and supportive. Four years of Religious Studies, wherein students consider concepts that give meaning to life on earth and clarify spiritual beliefs, is required. Its religious programs encourage students to focus on ethical and moral issues, and to understand how these influence social conduct and relationships.

More than 60% of Saint Bernard students participate in at least one of 18 interscholastic sports. Extracurricular activities allow students to express individual interests and talents. Students have opportunities to serve the School and external communities as volunteers.
