[edit] History
A Belgian Priest, Rev. Joseph Van Runckelen – a member of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM) Missionaries, who became Parish Priest of St. Andrew Parish of Parañaque (SAPP) in October 1915, founded St Andrew’s School (SAS) on June 27, 1917. The funds came from the people of Belgium who donated and helped in putting up the Elementary School that was first housed in the modest building located at the present site of St. Paul College of Parañaque. It was in 1938 when it transferred to the Parañaque Convent building that is still the present site. In 1932, Fr. Joseph founded the High School Department.
The school maintained its co-educational status up to the outbreak of World War II through the efforts of Rev. Adolf Cansse. The school opened SY with only the first year class exclusively for boys. After the directorship of Rev. Fr. Joseph Van Runckelen, Rev. Fr. Antonio Van Overveld took over from 1934 to 1937 before the management of Rev. Fr. Adolf Cansse who was the SAS Director from 1937 to 1952. Rev. Fr. Louis Thys, CICM and Parish Priest of SAPP served as the Director of SAS from. Rev. Fr. Paul Foulon, CICM another Belgian Priest who was the High School Principal from became the Assistant Director of SAS until 1991.
Rev. Fr. Francis Gevaert was the last CICM priest to have assumed the directorship of SAS from 1991 to 1993 due to the turnover of SAS Religious Orders to Diocesan in 1994. Fr. Romerico A. Prieto was the first Diocesan Parish Priest of SAPP to have assumed the directorship of SAS followed by Msgr. Manuel Sebastian who took over the same position from 1995 to 1996. Then in 1996, Msgr. Bayani G. Valenzuela became the Parish Priest of SAPP and Director of SAS. It was also during the same year when SAS brought back its co-educational status. It started in the Pre-school Department in SY, then in Grade School Department in and will progress in the High School Department by SY.
The year 2003 marked the birth of the Diocese of Parañaque with Bishop Jesse E. Mercado, D.D. as its first Bishop. It was during SY that SAS welcomed its new Director and Parish Priest Msgr. Manuel G. Gabriel. It was through his expertise in organizational development that a new direction was given to SAS: through SAS community reflection, participation, discussion and evaluation.
