[edit] Student Body and School Structure
St. Andrew's School is a private school founded in 1962 located in Boca Raton, Florida. This coeducational day school and boarding school is affiliated with the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. There are approximately 1130 students enrolled and 139 faculty members. The school is divided into The Lower School (Kindergarten through 5th Grade), The Middle School (6th Grade through 8th Grade), and The Upper School (9th Grade through 12th Grade).
The school has two chaplains: Mary-Ellen Cassini and Matthew Kozlowski. The former will soon be ordained as an Episcopal priest. They officiate at the chapel services which are held two times per week in the campus chapel. This chapel, officially called "The Chapel of Saint Andrew the Apostle," is also home to an active parish in the Episcopal Diocese of South-East Florida under Bishop Leo Frade (who is also an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees of the school).
[edit] History
[edit] Early Years
The school began as a boarding high school for boys, and was founded by the Episcopal School Foundation led by The Rev. Hunter Wyatt-Brown, Jr. who became the first headmaster. The late Alexander D. Henderson, a retired Avon Products, Inc. executive, and his wife, Lucy (Lucia Maria Ernst), provided significant private donations during the early years.
The first chapel services were held in a palmetto frond roof hut built by Seminole Indians. The 80 acre school grounds, with its large athletic fields, served as a training camp for the Miami Dolphins in 1966. Today, the co-educational K-12 school has several buildings and resembles a small college campus. While the original "chicki chapel" was replaced by a full size chapel, a new one has just been built, through the donations of an anonymous person, to honor Reverend George E. Andrews II, who was headmaster until 2006.
[edit] School Heads
The school has had eight headmasters. The first two were The Rev. Hunter Wyatt-Brown, Jr. (serving 1962-1963) and Eugene Curtis, Jr. (serving 1964-1971). The new school head is Dr. Ann Marie Krejcarek (effective 2006), replacing Reverend George E. Andrews II (serving 1989-2006).
[edit] School Anthem
The Alma Mater
In the state of sunshine, land of lakes and pine, Stands our Alma Mater, in her sacred shrine. Louder still and louder will her fame ring clear. With our shield to guide us, we shall have no fear. Hail to thee, Saint Andrew's Alma Mater, dear.
We shall e'er remember, Alma Mater, dear. We shall ever hail her with our voices clear. Longer still and longer may she stand in pride. May our Alma Mater ever be our guide. Hail to thee, Saint Andrew's Alma Mater, dear.
